Microsoft insisted it had no plans for mass job cuts in the wake of its proposed deal with Yahoo! in a message to staff in which the software giant sounded increasingly certain of its success.
The e-mail from Kevin Johnson, president of Microsoft's platforms and services division, said that "while some overlap is expected in any combination of this size, we should remember that Microsoft has hired over 20,000 people since 2005 and we would look to place talented employees throughout the company as a whole.
"We have no shortage of business and technical opportunities and need great people to focus on them. People are the single most important asset in this combination. There is no question we will dedicate significant rewards and compensation to Yahoo! and Microsoft employees."
